Volunteer to Help Us Transition into Our Next Era.
Congratulations to the 2022 "Our Next Era" Transition Team Co-chairs: Raushanah Morgan, Kevin Woods, and Reginald Milton.
2018 Co-chairman Emeritus Paul Morris will advise the committee.
Members of the Transition Team will be announced soon!
Our Next Era is dedicated to Our Children.
Shelby County Mayor Lee Harris is laser-focused on investing in the needs of our children. Through investments in student achievement, inclusive economic development, and expanded access to healthcare, we can strengthen our families and pave the way for a future where all of our children can succeed.
You can be a part of the solution.
In 2018, a visionary group of community leaders convened to develop a roadmap for Lee Harris’ first four years in the Shelby County Mayor’s Office. Their “Transition Shelby” plan framed much of the Harris’ administration’s focus. Now, it’s time to develop a plan for Our Next Era. We look forward to partnering with the community to serve Shelby County.
This year’s Transition Team members have been selected and will be announced soon. Check back on this page for updates.
Elected officials often appoint community leaders and subject-matter experts to serve on a special committee following a successful election. These individuals work together to research, assess, and propose relevant innovations to accomplish strategic goals on behalf of the office.
The Transition Team meets regularly for a few weeks or months, usually in smaller groups that are assigned with working on specific focus areas. Together, they craft actionable and measurable goals to drive the agenda for the elected official’s term in office.
The “Our Next Era” Transition Team will develop strategies to address seven focus areas. They will deliver their recommendations in a report and public presentation later this Fall.

To serve on this year’s Transition Team, an individual must be a resident of Shelby County with a demonstrated investment in serving our community. Members are required to attend three mandatory in-person meetings. The first is tentatively scheduled to take place on the following date and time in Downtown Memphis.
September 23, 4:00 PM
Additional meetings will take place virtually or in-person as guided by each Committee chair.
Each participant should expect to play an active role in understanding the structure of Shelby County Government, researching and validating recommendations, and contributing to the written Transition Report.
Mayor Lee Harris’ vision for Shelby County will require the community to come together to recommend solutions in five focus areas.
- Student Achievement
- Inclusive Economic Development
- Community Empowerment
- Healthcare Access
- Neighborhood Development
Underscoring the plans for each of these areas should be a commitment to breaking the cycle of poverty, strengthening small businesses, and collaborating with local institutions to promote a vibrant and safe Shelby County.
Mayor Harris will work closely with the “Our Next Era” Transition Team Co-chairs to review applications and select community members for participation.
Those who are not selected to participate formally may be contacted during the Transition Planning period as committees develop their final recommendations to include in the plan.
